On November 8 and 9, 2019 Reno Youth Jazz Orchestra Director, Vern Scarbrough will guest conduct the Reno Jazz Orchestra’s November concerts and feature the music of Stan Kenton. He was one of the legendary bandleaders like Duke Ellington and Count Basie who elevated big bands from the dance hall to the concert hall each with their own distinctive sound.

For four decades Stan led his innovative and influential band and pioneered jazz education with his Stan Kenton Jazz Camp established in 1959.

Vern will choose from over forty Kenton compositions/arrangements from the classic Malaguenato jazz standards like All the Things You Are, to more experimental pieces like Theme and Variations.

Opening both evenings performances will be students of our Saturday jazz workshops led by workshop director Dylan Coleman-Tunstall.

The performances will be held at the Good Luck Macbeth Theater, located at 124 W. Taylor Street, in mid-town Reno, NV. Tickets are $25 General Seating and $10 for Students (with I.D.) and are now on sale at RenoJazzOrchestra.org.
